Teacher Wins Grand Prize Package in First HGTV Smart Home℠ 2013 Giveaway
Wisconsin resident claims $900,000 prize package including a custom-built, eco-friendly home in Jacksonville Beach, Fla.

Peggy Walker thought she was meeting her friends for their regular weekly dinner date at Fabulous Ferns in St. Paul, Minn. last night. Little did she know that she was actually in for the surprise of a lifetime. Moments after arriving at the restaurant and surrounded by family and friends, Walker learned that out of more than 40 million entries, she was the chosen winner of the first HGTV Smart Home Giveaway. Her grand prize package is valued at more than $900,000, and includes the fully furnished home, a 2013 GMC® Terrain® Denali® and $100,000.

Walker, a retired special education teacher from South Washington County School District in Minnesota, lives on a dairy farm in River Falls, Wisc., with her husband Paul. Viewers can witness her reaction to HGTV Host Chi-Lan Lieu’s surprise ambush during the HGTV Smart Home 2013 Giveaway Special that airs on August 16 at 7 p.m. ET on HGTV.
