Fall Decorating Tips and Tricks

Fall tends to arrive a bit later in Florida than it does in other parts of the country, but those living in coastal areas are among the first to feel the cooler, crisper temperatures coming in off the water. Most homes in Atlantic Beach FL are decorated to invoke warm summer days on the beach, but with a few small changes, you can easily create an autumnal look that complements your home’s coastal charm.

As the temperatures drop, wardrobes change to accommodate more layering pieces like sweaters and shawls. Carry this idea over into your living spaces, adding warm, cozy blankets, throws, and pillows to create ideal places to snuggle on a chilly day. Now is the time to play around with different textures and patterns, from light cashmere blankets to soft woolen pillows.

Another way to use textiles to add a sense of warmth to your home is by using slipcovers. They’re an easy way to change a room from cool modern to cozy cottage. You don’t have to slipcover all of your sofas and larger pieces to make an impact, though. In fact, one simple way to add some fall style to your dining room or eat-in-kitchen area is by covering your dining chairs. Particularly if your chairs are light, airy rattan or wicker, a sturdy, tailored slipcover adds a sense of inviting warmth.

Even if the days are still warmer, the evenings with the coastal breezes can be quite chilly. Add some beautifully colored quilts to all of your bedrooms. This is also a great way to show off some family treasures that are packed carefully away for most of the year.

Homes in Atlantic Beach FL typically turn to the colors of nature around them for inspiration. You’ll find lots of sandy tones, the many blues of the sea and sky, and shades of beautiful greenery. These all pair well with their warmer complementary colors, including warm oranges, corals, chocolatey browns, and even deep purples and emeralds. As well as pillows and blankets, think about incorporating these colors in with accessories like candles and bowls or even in autumnal-themed flower arrangements.

By updating for the season, you can impart a new vitality to your home. If you have a fireplace, build a softly crackling fire, sit back amid your favorite blankets with a warm drink, and enjoy the beautiful views inside and outside your Glenn Layton home.
