Exclusive Glen Kernan Club Gets a Renovation

Jacksonville-based Corner Lot and Hampton Golf paid $4.89 million for the Glen Kernan Golf & Country Club and began a year-long renovation of the course and club, which is now ready for members and their guests.

The Glen Kernan Golf & Country Club has received a $25 million makeover, giving a whole new look and experience to this top-notch location. For example, the course has been lengthened, from 6,900 yards to more than 7,300 yards. The golf course was designed by 17-time PGA Tour winner, 2003 U.S. Open, and 2010 FedEx Cup champion Jim Furyk. With the course expansion, there will be a half-dozen new holes, used primarily by professionals. Cameron Smith, an LIV golfer and area resident, played a role in designing the practice areas and the back tees, known as “The Cam Tees” by the staff. Furthermore, every member of the golf staff will be a PGA of America professional, ranging from apprentice to master golf professional.

The dedication to the golf course is also found in the fact that typical income drivers, such as weddings and other external events, will not be accepted. The aim is to keep everything open for members and their guests, with no unexpected closings for other events. “Our members always know that they have a place to play golf. They’re never going to get an email. ‘The club is closed on Friday due to this outing.’ Our members are always going to have a place to play, eat and dine,” said David Bacon, director of food and beverage, who has extensive experience, including at TPC Sawgrass and other high-level golf courses.

As for the clubhouse and activity center, they’ve also received a major overhaul, getting rid of the dark wood and taxidermy. The new look is one of a modern, upscale hotel lobby and spa area, and there will also be resort-style pools by the clubhouse to round out the experience. Furthermore, the dining room and patios will overlook the golf course and the clubhouse exterior will be lit at night for a more attractive atmosphere than the previous darkness.

In all, the renovations are resulting in a new and improved golf course, clubhouse, restaurant, locker rooms and activity center that includes a lap pool, eight clay tennis courts, four pickleball courts, a basketball court and a multipurpose field.
